Preliminary Mission Statement:
The Human Sexuality and Anthropology Interest Group (HSAIG until we come up with a better acronym) represents broadly the interests of anthropologists who have been working in the areas of human sexuality. Anthropologists have diverse interests in human sexuality including AIDS/HIV interests of AARG, and LGBGTQ theory and research of SOLGA, but also spanning topics such as sex through the life course: including childhood, adolescence and aging, gender, reproductive health, sexual rights, sexual health, globalization, bisexuality, intersexuality, law and policy, gender justice, sexual dysfunction, cybersex, evolutionary considerations, primatology, the archaeology of sex, sociolinguistics among others.

We see ourselves as an organization that is complimentary to the interests of SOLGA and AARG. We will invite dialogue with these organizations and others with related interest, such as Society of North America, Society for Medical Anthropology, National Association for the Practice of Anthropology, the Society for Applied Anthropology, the Association for Feminist Anthropology and the Society for the Anthropology of Europe among others.  Anthropological research offers unique concepts and approaches to human sexuality research not necessarily shared by other disciplines such as holism, the four field vision, the culture concept, cultural relativism-cultural sensitivity, reflexivity, and qualitative research methods.
